Creative Saturdays – Mixed Media Tadeo Turtle

This week we moved to our winter residence in Arizona. I found a few minutes to have fun – real fun. I found some scrapbooking papers that I had picked up at a garage sale and wondered what I could do with them.

This is what turned out.

Materials:

      • papers – all sorts
      • scissors
      • watercolour paper
      • paints and brushes
      • salt
      • podge or white glue

Instructions:

Decide on your animals, fish or plants. Cut out from the papers. I decided on Tadeo and made three of them.

Put your pieces together to make your figures.

On the watercolour paper apply water using a brush or spray bottle. Drop colours onto the wet paper. Sprinkle salt.

Let dry.

Decide on your pattern for the figures. I tried several placements before I was happy with the result.

Now paste the figures onto the dried watercolour paper. Then paste over again all over the picture. This was fun.

Wait until completely dry. I added more watercolour on top of the pasted paper. This turned out to be interesting as the colours were different and I saw shapes appear.

I added the eyes and toes with black marker. Additional details could be added to the picture as well.

Children Christian Authors – a Review of Tadeo Turtle

Children Christian Authors – A Review of Tadeo Turtle

A big thanks to Diane Stortz for asking to review my children’s book, Tadeo Turtle. Yippee. Diane gave it 5 Stars!

Tadeo turtle

Tadeo – It’s Me!

Some of her words:

Editors of Christian children’s books often see manuscripts similar to Tadeo Turtle. A young character wishes to be different in some way, faces an obstacle, and then decides he is happy with the way God made him after all. Because the plot is so common, most of these manuscripts don’t get published.

But in Tadeo Turtle, author and illustrator Janis Cox presents a well-put-together package of text, art, and extra activities that make the familiar plot line worth a look–and garnered the award for best children’s book at the the 2013 Word Awards Gala in Mississauga, Ontario, in a competition sponsored by The Word Guild, an association for Canadian Christian writers.

You can read the rest of the review at Christian Children’s Authors. There are other wonderful Christian authors both writing and blogging on this site. Please visit.

To find out more about Tadeo and how to order please visit Tadeo’s Page.

Or you can purchase one from me right now by clicking on the Paypal icon. You will be directed to either use a credit card or paypal. I will sign the book as well. Price is $13.00 and $2.50 for shipping and handling.

Creative Saturdays – Stained Glass Watercolour Tadeo Turtle

Creative Saturdays – Stained Glass Watercolour Tadeo Turtle

Played a lot tonight with a my new watercolour pencils. I showed my watercolour crayons to my grandchildren on our holiday – they loved them. Here are a few pictures.

So today I thought I would try a stained glass type of painting. I tried different ways but it really doesn’t matter how your child does the lines, as long as they get lines and spaces to colour.

First I tried with making the lines and then putting in the head, legs and tail.

Then I tried drawing the turtle and putting the lines from each of the appendages. Either way gives wonderful spaces to colour.

I painted with my watercolour pencils, and with watercolour. I liked both. I would have liked to try the watercolour crayons but ran out of time.

AMAZING VIDEO

Tadeo Turtle

Wow – I didn’t know that!

Watch this video – nature is truly amazing. God has figured everything out – even how to get salt to bees which is hard to find in the Amazon. So complex yet simple.

Here is more information on a turtle drowning in butterfly kisses.

Be amazed.
