Umbrella: Scribble Picnic

Umbrella: Scribble Picnic

Here it is Wednesday and Scribble Picnic day. Our word for this week is UMBRELLA.

We have been in Arizona for 4 months and have had the wettest winter ever. That’s not saying we have had much rain but we have had more rain that we have ever had. A few times we actually had to use our umbrella while walking our little dog, Snowball.

She doesn’t take advantage of the shelter of the umbrella and comes home completely bedraggled and dirty from all the dust in Arizona.

One day I captured a rainbow after a short rain storm. And last week we had hail – I heard the grass in some areas was white.

So the picture I painted I used micro pens and watercolour pencil. A quick sketch from my memory of holding an umbrella. And believe it or not I did it at 2am again – this time because my jaw was throbbing from a dental appointment. (lost a crown on back tooth) The girl is heading into the wind but turned to have her picture taken.

    1. Alex,
Snowball is utterly adorable – most of the time. Thanks for dropping by. And I do like colour. I am thrilled to be back.

  1. So sorry about your jaw pain – hopefully it won’t last. I love your giant umbrella in such bright colors. It makes a rainy day a little more cheerful and you’ve certainly captured a bit of cheerfulness here.

  2. Yes, snowball is cute and sorry you are perhaps getting more rain than bargained for! And when it rains, it pours, right? Poor you with that toothache and up at 2:00am! Wow, Janis. Perhaps I should be surprised at just how cheery this ill is as such! Bright colours and the umbrella is catching all the rain drops focused on her. Great! 🙂 So hope you feel better soon. thank you so much for your lovely addition here.

    1. Michael,
I love being back. It gives me something to think about during the week (artwise) – at those times when I just don’t want to edit or write. Or cook. This week I have been working on the lantern – hopefully will have time to put it up as we have family arriving Friday and off to Disney Land for a few days. So it might take me until Saturday to write back to everyone. I will schedule the post to make sure I don’t miss it.
I like getting the prompts early. Good to think about them.
And I like colour, cheer and looking at the bright side.

  3. Sometimes the weather just surprises me too. One moment it’s summer hot and then the next time, it’s stormy.

    Great art, and photos!

    1. Lux,
Isn’t that true? Never know about the weather except that we will have some. Thanks for coming by and leaving a message.

  4. Hope you’re feeling better by now – – – – – – and that the rain has let up in AZ.
That looks like a golf umbrella perhaps – certainly gives plenty of coverage! Nice!!!!

    Mary –

    1. Mary,
Thanks. And yes jaw is improving. I get the permanent cap tomorrow and then will be able to chew better. – I hope.
Rain is gone. None in sight. Temps in mid 80s. Spring is here.

  5. This is such a cute interpretation Janis, very playful with the bright colours. Sorry to hear about all the rain in Arizona, not what I pictured.

    1. Christine,
That was winter time in Arizona – and it doesn’t last long. We now have temps in the mid 80s. Thanks for the compliments. I hope next time not to be painting at 2 am.
      Blessings

  6. Snowball is so cute! Lovely rainbows capture.

Major ouch on the mouth pain though. Hope it settles soon for you.

Great take on the umbrella theme. I have one of those multi coloured umbrellas.

Enjoy the rest of your week. 🙂

    1. Serena,
I was imagining a large colourful umbrella. I wanted to paint a picture of my granddaughter from a recent photo but never got time to get it done. Some day.
Jaw is improving but I don’t like taking any meds so arnica is working.

    1. Tammie,
We don’t get much rain in the desert but we do get it back home in Canada. We will be using our umbrellas a lot more when we head home. Think we need to buy a new one – hubby lost ours somewhere.
      Blessings
      Janis

  7. If you have to get out in the rain, you might as well have a colorful umbrella! I glad the girl turned to look this way.
Sorry about the tooth problem, but aren’t we grateful for dentists who can help!

    1. Yes very grateful for emergency dental surgery. They took me quite quickly. I am almost healed – still throbs a bit but taking arnica and that seems to be helping. Certainly I am sleeping better.
      Blessings
      Janis

    1. Lissa,
Yes Snowball is adorable but sometimes she is mischievous too grabbing kleenex, socks and even underwear. I know she looks so innocent. Thanks for dropping by.
      Blessings
      Janis
