Creative Saturdays – Burnished Tadeo Turtle
Trying something entirely different today. I found this interesting idea at:
Owls – Make It a Wonderful Life
Materials:
- White Glue (suggested tacky as it is heavier)
- Cardboard
- Q-tips
- A simple drawing
- Aluminum foil
- Black shoe polish and polishing cloth
Instructions:
First find a simple picture. You can draw it out first on the cardboard. I did mine freehand as I have drawn Tadeo a number of times.
Go over the lines with the white glue. Make sure the bottle is easy to squeeze.
Wait for it to dry. This is the hardest part.
Next take the piece of foil which is cut a little larger than the picture and with a glue stick put glue on the foil. Now place the foil over your picture and wrap around to the back.
Carefully, using a soft cloth or paper towel, start to press the foil to the cardboard.
Next using a Q-Tip go closer to the shapes. Pressing down carefully.
Finally with a dull pencil go into the areas closer. You can add extra lines at this point.
Now with the black shoe polish gently rub over the entire creation. Wait for it to dry. Polish carefully. I only had black shoe polish in a tin so it was harder to put on and very hard to polish off. Also the smell was awful. I believe they have water based shoe polish that would work better and be much safer.
Voila – a unique picture.
Don’t forget to send me your child’s pictures. Send them to Janis Cox and I will put them up in the Children’s Gallery.
Please check out more about my book Tadeo Turtle on Tadeo’s Page. You will find more activities at the back of my book. And a 24-page curriculum is available if you ask.

Thank you so much for linking up to my blog. Love your turtle!
