Sunday Stillness Link – Man it’s dark

man-it's-dark

Have you ever woken up in a room in the country where there are no lights. I do that each night to use the washroom. I used to walk without any light by feeling my way. As I age I am thinking that isn’t too bright. Now I use a flashlight. It is small and I cover it with my hand so as to not wake up my sleeping hubby.

But dark is DARK. Unless there is a moon I can’t even see my hand.

In John 12:35 it says:

Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going. (tweet this)

That really makes sense to me now. We need light to see where we are going.

Lately I have been reading scriptures about spiritual warfare. We are told to put on the suit of God’s protection. We are told to not fret, worry or be anxious but pray. We are told to trust in God – that the battle has all ready been won. Jesus is the conqueror. And the battle is the Lord’s.

The readings that have been on my mind are:

2 Corinthians 10:3-5

The words that stick out are: We have been given weapons to demolish strongholds, demolish arguments, We are to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ.

1 Thessalonians 5:8

We need the armour of God in order to stand firm. We are covered head to foot (with a helmet of salvation, a belt of truth and feet in readiness – and carrying a shield of faith).

then I thought of 1 Samuel 17:47 (NASB):

and that all this assembly may know that the Lord does not deliver by sword or by spear; for the battle is the Lord’s and He will give you into our hands.

Prayer:

Lord, for those who are in the dark, I ask that you send Your Light to shine in to their lives. And I pray when we get into dark places we remember to turn on the light – right away. Help us to stay in the light – Your light. In Jesus’ name. AMEN.

  1. Janis, your words always bless me, Dear One! You are such a precious being. Thank you for sharing this, sweet Sister! I am grateful to visit and link-up with you this morning! Peace and many blessings to you, Love! 🙂

  2. Thank you, Janis, for providing such a rich table of spiritual food and practical tools for strengthening our walk with God. I enjoyed and appreciated this post and also several other of your offerings that I checked, during this session. May God richly bless you and continue to speak wisdom and truth to and through you. ~~+~~

    1. Peter,
Those are lovely words to hear, “a rich table of spiritual food” – wow! Praising God that my words are making sense and true to Him.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  3. Thank you for faithfully linking up at Weekend Whispers every weekend. I have loved visiting you and getting to know you. Your post today made me think of the bible study I am starting this week-Armor of God by Priscilla Shirer. Hope your week is blessed.

    1. Hello Mary,
I am not sure how faithful I am at linking. But I try hard to get to it. For the past few weeks I haven’t even had time to write back to my friends who comment. I love Priscilla Shirer – there is something about her natural way that really speaks to me. And I love seeing you visit and your thoughts.
      Blessings to you,
      Janis

  4. It’s easy to forget that we are in a spiritual battle, Janis. I was just thinking about that this morning. Thanks for always shining a light on areas we need to pay close attention to, my friend. Thanks also for the linkup!

    1. Yes Beth,
There have been many passages in the last weeks that keep reminding me of that fact. Thank goodness the battle is won. But we are still in the midst of it. There is darkness around us. Shine on, my friend.
      Blessings,
      Janis

    1. Thanks Jason. We need to pray for many people to see the light. It is so DARK out there. Today I heard of a 3 year old taking a paper whale that she made in Sunday School to daycare. Mom got an earful when she went to pick her up. “We can’t have that stuff in here!” Yikes – what are people afraid of?

      Blessings,
      Janis

    1. Thanks so much Michele. It was done by a professional photographer at a conference for writers. I have so many to choose from – it’s hard.
      Blessings to you,
      Janis

I love to connect with you.
