Sunday Stillness – Where is My Home?

Where is My Home?

Our vacation home in AZ.

We are snowbirds and we fly south for the winter. Each year we fill out a US tax form to show that we have a closer connection to Canada. Canada  – that’s where our family resides, our church, and church family, our home, our cars, our doctor, optometrist, and our possessions and documents. We want to ensure that the US government knows we do not intend to reside in the US forever and become income taxable in the US.

We are just visiting.

In our spiritual lives, we need to think about which place is our closer connection.

Are we pulled and swayed by the world?

Or are we just visiting?

As I finished reading the last study on Beth Moore’s Living Beyond Yourself, the thought of closer connection became clear.

As followers of Jesus, we are just visiting here on earth. It is not our home. And I need to show others my closer connection.

Jesus said:

If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world (John 15:19, NIV).

Next week I will talk about the way to get this closer connection so we know to whom we really belong.

It is not God’s will for us to be mastered by anything other than Him – Beth Moore. Living Beyond Yourself.

  1. Janis- Love this analogy and this message. Beautifully written and encouraging. It left me with the song, “Soon and Very Soon” in my head. Thanks for sharing and hosting!

    1. Thank you so much. I want to encourage others to look for ways to show Christ in our everyday walk. This is so important – we are “home” all ready in the love and safety of Jesus. Let’s live that way.

  2. What a blessing it is for you to be able to travel to a warmer climate during the winter. We’re happy to have you here in the U.S. There are times when I look to the sky, and something comes over me, or wells up inside of me or something…something unexplainable…and I feel homesick…longing for Heaven and Home. Enjoy your warm winter!

    1. Hi
Yes we certainly feel blessed to be able to be here in Arizona – sunshine. It also makes me very grateful for the opportunity to do this. There are times I feel that joy – knowing that He is here wherever I travel.

  3. There is an old song, “This world is not my home, I’m just a passing through” Haven’t heard it in a long time. Thanks for the invite to enter your lovely blog party.

    1. Hi Hazel,
Thanks for linking and if we remember that song, we will more and more try to act more towards our real home than this world.

  4. I love the idea of going someplace else for part of the year. We’re lucky, the SE has a short winter. But I’d love to have a second home closer to relatives. In actuality, I don’t quite “belong” to either place! Blessings and thank you for hosting this wonderful Sunday linkup!

    1. Hi Carrie,
I understand the “not belonging” – that is the difficult part – but it does keep you focused on God. He is always there no matter where we go.

  6. Hi Janis, I like this idea of connection to Jesus. That was my theme as I attempted to write through the end part of those 31 days. I need to show others where my connection is–and live it out. Thank you for this post. That Beth Moore study sounds like one I’d like to take. I still have to check out your SIMPLE method of Bible study.

So good to have you back. Living it out – what a marvellous thought but we need to stick close to God in order to accomplish it.

I love to connect with you.
