Sunday Stillness – Who was Irena Sendler?

Irena_Sendlerowa_1942

From Wikipedia

While talking Beth Moore’s study called Children of the Day, Beth mentioned Irena Sendler. Curious, I looked her up and decided we would watch the movie about her.

Excellent movie and quite a story.

Irena was a Polish nurse during WWII who worked with the Polish Underground.

Assisted by some two dozen other Żegota members, Sendler smuggled approximately 2,500 Jewish children out of the Warsaw Ghetto and then provided them with false identity documents and shelter outside the Ghetto, saving those children from the Holocaust.[4]

Born in 1910, she died in 2008 at the age of 98.

Here is the link to the movie.

Thoughtful Tuesdays – 4 Ways I have become more aware

Thoughtful Tuesdays – 4 Ways I have become more aware

4-Ways-I-have-become-more-aware

After writing my post on Sunday Stillness about being easily deceived, I have been given even more awareness into things I just didn’t know. This all started from reading Titus 1:10

For there are many rebellious people, mere talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision group (Titus 1:10, NIVUK).

1. In Beth Moore’s study I have learned that I not only have to see – I have to attend to what I have seen. Her example is Moses and the burning bush. The study is called Children of the Day based on 1 and 2 Thessalonians. We have to watch out for false gods.

Idolatry is a python of misfit parts, squeezing the life out of us (page 35, Children of the Day).

Isn’t that a picture?

2. One of the comments on my post for Sunday gave a wonderful link to why Yoga is “Unfortunately, … more … than meets the eye.” Check out Stretching the Truth about Yoga for an extremely informative article.

3. I am teaching the Bible study The Workbook of Living Prayer. We were learning this week to be aware and pay attention to. (a repeating theme for me this week). Watch using interruptions, people, and situations. See and pray through all of these.

4. This morning in our Arizona newspaper there was an interesting, enlightening article on BPA. I couldn’t believe all the places that BPA can be found. Watch for plastics labelled 3 and 7. Watch for those receipts we get at stores. (Yes BPA is in them too) I couldn’t find the Arizona Republic article but here is one that is similar BPA and your health.

4. And just one more awareness. We are working on eating real foods – and this article has one good explanation. It is from 2011 but it certainly is eye opening. Our pantry has no packaged goods anymore. I hope to write more about eating real foods.

“This is the first study to provide clear evidence that food packaging is a major source of BPA and DEHP exposure in children and adults,” (AZ Central.com)

So let’s keep our eyes open – let’s see where God is leading us. Read His Word.

Sunday Stillness – Where is My Home?

Where is My Home?

where-is-my-home

Photo from free digital photos . net

We are snowbirds and we fly south for the winter. Each year we fill out a US tax from to show that we have a closer connection to Canada. Canada  – that’s where our family resides, our church, and church family, our home, our cars, our doctor, optometrist, and our possessions and documents. We want to ensure that the US government knows we do not intend to reside in the US forever and become income taxable in the the US.

We are just visiting.

In our spiritual lives we need to think of which place is our closer connection. Are we pulled and swayed by the world? Or

are we just visiting?

As I finished reading the last study on Beth Moore’s Living Beyond Yourself, the thought of closer connection became clear.

As followers of Jesus, we are just visiting here on earth. It is not our home. And I need to show others my closer connection.

Jesus said:

If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world (John 15:19, NIV).

Next week I will talk about the way to get this closer connection so we know to whom we really belong.

It is not God’s will for us to be mastered by anything other than Him – Beth Moore. Living Beyond Yourself.

Sunday Stillness – Are You Hearing from God?

Are you hearing from God?

Are you hearing from God?

Fall has arrived and we snowbirds have flown south to Arizona. After an extremely busy summer I have spent this past week relaxing and trying to listen to God’s voice.

How often do you listen to God’s voice?

Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending a retreat in the mountains up in Pine Arizona with my Bible study group called The Bible Babes. We had a wonderful weekend and it certainly helped me adjust and get through jet lag.

Now I am ready to see where God will lead me. Our group is finishing a Bible study by Beth Moore called Living Beyond Yourself. This past week we studied “gentleness”. It was a great lesson to review the concept of living like Jesus.

Here are some wonderful statements from her study:

  • Gentleness is responsibility with power.
  • Gentleness is riding the wind of God’s will and setting sail toward the remote island of intimacy.
  • Allow Jesus to comb out the tangles of your life until you are free.
  • Physical posture can have a great impact on spiritual stature. (don’t forget to kneel!)
  • To miss God’s Word in our circumstances is to miss God.
  • God’s teachers are bound to God’s opinion, the only one which truly matters.
  • Only God’s Word is the absolute truth! Only God’s Word can sanctify believers.
  • God’s teacher is the vessel while God’s Word packs the punch.

As we come together today let’s remember to be gentle towards others and towards ourselves. Let’s remember to study God’s Word and pray. This is one way we can hear from God.

Today is Sunday Stillness.

ASK

Cherry Warrick writes as Pursuing Heart and is our guest blogger today. We have reprinted this post from February with her permission.

Ask

by Cherry Warrick

When in need of wisdom, ask. It’s as simple as that. But how often we miss the obvious.

“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God,
and He will give it to you.
He will not rebuke you for asking.”
 (James 1:5)

Keep asking, over and over again. Why? He already knows what we need. But He tells us to ask; He wants us to ask.

“The King of the universe wants a real, live relationship with us. …
He wants us – frail mortal creatures – to connect with Him
and communicate with Him as the dearest relationship in human existence.
He rejoices to hear our voices.
He delights to be our sole and holy source for all things in life.”
 (Beth Moore, James: Mercy Triumphs)

The one condition to our asking –

“But when you ask Him,
be sure that your faith is in God alone.”

 (James 1:6a)
