What’s on my heart

What’s on my heart

We recently made the move from Ontario to Arizona – our yearly migration, following the birds and that’s why they call us Snowbirds. Everything is still in a jumble and I have cleaning to do. But I needed to get a post up with a link for all my wonderful sisters and brothers in Christ. Today I want to tell you what was on my heart.

God Filled My Heart

When I wrote The Kingdom of Thrim God filled my heart with the idea that all of us need to know that God speaks to us in prayer but we must stop to ask Him. Yoj, the dollmaker, in the Kingdom of Thrim, does not do that and lands himself in hot water. But all is not lost – God knows when we have strayed and will find a way to bring us back again.

Thanks to Jeff Goins for a great endorsement. He said:

I needed this book. If you feel like you’ve lost your gift or wandered too far from hom and aren’t sure if you can find your way back, you need it too (Jeff Goins, bestselling author of The Art of Work).

and Rev. Peter Black said:

“… imaginative, winsome and creative, this book will help foster wholesome, godly values in a natural unforced way (Rev. Peter A. Black, author of Parables from the Pond).”

As I started on my promotion of this newest book, I knew I wanted to make another stuffie – I made stuffed turtles for my first book, Tadeo Turtle.

As I researched dolls I found out how to make a stuffed doll using a pair of children’s socks. For this reason I decided to make a sock doll. I added the instructions to the back of the book.

While making my second doll – all of a sudden I could hear quite clearly, “You should think about giving the money you make on the dolls to a charity.”

And since I had just finished reading The Game Changers by Jean Chamberlain Froese and Patricia Paddey, I knew this was the charity that I would support.

Save the Mothers was created when Dr. Jean Chamberlain Froese, a Canadian obstetrician/gynecologist from McMaster University, was confronted with mothers in need in Uganda. The Save the Mothers Program, offering a Master’s Degree in Public Health Leadership, began at Uganda Christian University in 2005. Students study on a part-time basis over two years, completing the program with an intensive community outreach project.

Check out Dr. Jean Chamberlain Froese’s Facebook update.

For this reason, I asked if I could partner with them to sell my dolls with all the money going to Save the Mothers.

And this is what came as a result.

What's on my heart

So far I have sold 12 dolls – they come in a set with the book and the doll for $20. I sell them at fairs and at The Rails End Gallery in my hometown of Haliburton.

If you find this has touched your heart, and you wish to donate to this charity please click here.

Or contact me if you are either in Mesa, Arizona or Haliburton, Ontario and I can make sure you get a set of The Kingdom of Thrim and a Yoj Sock Doll.
