Have you ever made financial decisions that were not good ones?
Do you listen to God on a daily basis?

A Purposeful Faith

We want our children to have a strong purposeful faith. We want them to trust and believe in God. We want to instil in them good values and faith disciplines.

Valuable Lessons

“I needed this book. If you feel like you’ve lost your gift or wandered too far from home and aren’t sure if you can find your way back, you need it too.” Jeff Goins

Other happy readers have said,

“This is a delightful children’s book with a strong Biblical message. I loved the soft tone of the illustrations. It would make a wonderful story-book for those bedtime moments that are so important for bonding and teaching.” – Marcia Laycock

“Janis Cox is a beautiful storyteller and lovely illustrator and does an excellent job of presenting a story for both kids and adults that speaks to the very heart, no matter what age you may be. Highly recommended.” – Sally Meadows

How to Celebrate Who You Are

All About Tadeo Turtle

Do you feel you are special?

Is there a time when you have felt unloved?
Have you felt that you are not good enough?
Or you have wanted to be or act like someone else?

Children have the same struggles.

That’s how competition makes for hurt feelings and inadequacy.

Tadeo Turtle is a little colourful turtle who loves life – until he sees Sammy squirrel climbing a tree and starts to envy his way of life. Join Tadeo on his journey of self-discovery. He learns a lesson that we all need to learn – God loves us, just the way He made us.

Acceptance of who you are leads to many positive characteristics. So no matter what age you are this book has a lesson for you.

Created for ages newborn to 6, Tadeo Turtle has become a best-loved book.

There are children’s activities and research ideas in the back of the book.

Make this a special gift this Christmas.

Happy readers have said,

“I bought these [Janis has 2 books] for my grand-nieces a couple of years ago. They’re not book kids, but they loved these. Their mom says they still read them!’ – Bobbi Junior

“May we accept this beautiful gift as Tadeo learned to do. This short book has a lesson for children and adults alike. How often do we wish we were like someone else or had things that others have? Tadeo Turtle is a simple rhyming story for the young. Janis Cox illustrated the animals and scenes in luscious, colorful watercolors. They are so beautifully painted.” Amazon customer

Where is Beauty? Five Minute Friday

If we use our eyes we will see beauty around us.

I have 5 minutes to write my thoughts on “Beauty”. The prompt is from Five Minute Fridays.

beauty

From “The Kingdom of Thrim” by Janis Cox

When I think of the word beauty I see all of God’s creation.

There is so much to see. I haven’t travelled the world much — I’ve been to Europe a few times, the Caribbean, and seen some of Canada and the US.

But I hadn’t really seen any of the beauty. I had to look for it.

During a challenge by Ann Voskamp back in 2012 I started a journal based on a book called One Thousand Gifts. I saw more of God’s beauty than I ever had before. But I had to look.

Looking isn’t easy in our busy lives, is it? We run from one activity to the next.

What’s on my heart

What’s on my heart

We recently made the move from Ontario to Arizona – our yearly migration, following the birds and that’s why they call us Snowbirds. Everything is still in a jumble and I have cleaning to do. But I needed to get a post up with a link for all my wonderful sisters and brothers in Christ. Today I want to tell you what was on my heart.

my heart

God Filled My Heart

When I wrote The Kingdom of Thrim God filled my heart with the idea that all of us need to know that God speaks to us in prayer but we must stop to ask Him. Yoj, the dollmaker, in the Kingdom of Thrim, does not do that and lands himself in hot water. But all is not lost – God knows when we have strayed and will find a way to bring us back again.

Thanks to Jeff Goins for a great endorsement. He said:

I needed this book. If you feel like you’ve lost your gift or wandered too far from hom and aren’t sure if you can find your way back, you need it too (Jeff Goins, bestselling author of The Art of Work).

and Rev. Peter Black said:

“… imaginative, winsome and creative, this book will help foster wholesome, godly values in a natural unforced way (Rev. Peter A. Black, author of Parables from the Pond).”

As I started on my promotion of this newest book, I knew I wanted to make another stuffie – I made stuffed turtles for my first book, Tadeo Turtle.

Stuffed Tadeo Turtle - Janis Cox

Stuffed Tadeo Turtle

As I researched dolls I found out how to make a stuffed doll using a pair of children’s socks. For this reason I decided to make a sock doll. I added the instructions to the back of the book.

While making my second doll – all of a sudden I could hear quite clearly, “You should think about giving the money you make on the dolls to a charity.”

And since I had just finished reading The Game Changers by Jean Chamberlain Froese and Patricia Paddey, I knew this was the charity that I would support.

my heart

Save the Mothers was created when Dr. Jean Chamberlain Froese, a Canadian obstetrician/gynecologist from McMaster University, was confronted with mothers in need in Uganda. The Save the Mothers Program, offering a Master’s Degree in Public Health Leadership, began at Uganda Christian University in 2005. Students study on a part-time basis over two years, completing the program with an intensive community outreach project.

Check out Dr. Jean Chamberlain Froese’s Facebook update.

For this reason, I asked if I could partner with them to sell my dolls with all the money going to Save the Mothers.

God speaks to my heart

And this is what came as a result.

What's on my heart

So far I have sold 12 dolls – they come in a set with the book and the doll for $20. I sell them at fairs and at The Rails End Gallery in my hometown of Haliburton.

If you find this has touched your heart, and you wish to donate to this charity please click here.

Or contact me if you are either in Mesa, Arizona or Haliburton, Ontario and I can make sure you get a set of The Kingdom of Thrim and a Yoj Sock Doll.

What’s happening during my prayer life?

During the summer I had much time to think and pray. I have found out that I need to be focused on one thing at a time. For some reason my brain likes to flit from one thing to another. I am learning to focus and do one task – until it is finished. Then on to the next. It has helped me to make a list of tasks and try to tick them off as they are done.

I read an amazing blog about 50 ways to improve my life. (click to tweet)

I have started 3 of them:

  1. Don’t use social media, blogging, or texting until 60 minutes or more has gone past since you woke up. This has been a big one for me. Now I can relax and focus on what God is teaching me.
  2. Do something that terrifies you – it says to do this each day. Well I have been trying to do it at least once a week. I spoke in front of the church on Sunday without notes. I am planning my first ever book tour.
  3. Replace warm showers with cold ones. Again I am slowly working into this. I have a short cool down shower after my hot one. And I mean cool not cold. I can’t go cold yet.

Those are just 3 new ones I am trying. Check out the list. I do the no sugar, and go to bed early and rise early. I am working on another three and will share another time.

Would love to hear what’s happening in your life. How can I pray for you?

Thrim Week6 Blog Holiday

I would recommend that if you are having a book launch don’t have one in June. The summer is not the time to be marketing a new book. However saying that I am going to put up a few memes about The Kingdom of Thrim that I hope you consider sharing.

While on this blogging holiday I have been learning much from Oswald Chambers and a study by Kay Arthur called Lord, Only You Can Change Me. I hope to write some of my thoughts on what God is teaching me when I return in September.

The Kingdom of Thrim is here!

The Kingdom of Thrim is here!

This has been an exciting week. On Monday my proof arrived for The Kingdom of Thrim.

The Kingdom of ThrimIt was great so we went to print. Books should arrive soon.

I am taking preorders and you receive special bonuses for ordering early.

I remember the birth of my first child – how excited we were, how unsuspecting of what we were getting into. Then the second child arrived – we were a little more prepared but still unsure of the next steps.

So it has been with becoming an author/illustrator. For my first book, in 2012, Tadeo Turtle, I had absolutely no idea what to expect. I felt I was in way over my head. And I was. Even though The Kingdom of Thrim was written in early 2013, I didn’t proceed. I couldn’t. There was so much that I didn’t know about advertising, and marketing.

Here it is 2016, and I am not sure how much more I know about those subjects. I have taken courses, and gone to more conferences. I have met people and talked with them. I know more in my little head than before but now I have to act on it.

This time I had a launch team who are working at getting the word out for me. That is a good thing because honestly my mind is scattered. I am having trouble focusing on one task at a time. And I was getting better at doing that. It must be the excitement.

Here is my picture with the proof copy.

Here is the book trailer: Please share

Would you be able to help me?

Could you pin the pictures to Pinterest?
Could you share on Facebook?
Could you tweet?

It takes a village to launch a book (tweet this).
