My Word for 2016?

My Word for 2016?

I have been praying this week to find my word for 2016. I have mulled over many things. As we celebrated Christmas I focused on all that meant to me. This week I found myself thinking about “after Christmas”. What does that mean?

I thought about the magi and wrote a post for Community Moms for this coming week. I really thought about those wisemen. They knew something important happened. They had seen a sign.

Am I watching carefully enough to see a sign from God? (tweet this)

I decided to look over the past 4 years – ever since I started choosing one word for the year. You can see my walk by clicking the links below. I went from trust, to live, to follow and then this year be intentional.

I don’t know what my word for 2016 is – yet. I know that I need to take this week to spend in prayer and study. I won’t be posting any regular posts until next weekend.

While I am searching for my word, I ask you, do you have a word for this year? (tweet this)

Here is my history of words.

Am I Spinning My Wheels?

Am I Spinning My Wheels?

by Janis Cox

Are-you-spinning-your-wheels-

Thanks to Photo Bucket for the Photo Stuck Vehicle.

With all the snow up north this winter I thought about a time when I became very stuck in that white stuff.

As I went on a mission to find furniture for a group of refugees we worked with, I drove into a parking lot. The snow in the lot didn’t look very deep. However when I tried to back up, I became stuck.

I couldn’t go forward or backward – I kept spinning my wheels.

People came to help. I would put the car into low gear and then they would push. I would put the car into reverse and they would push from the front. I tried rocking the car back and forth using the gears. Nothing – the car kept spinning.

Suddenly I remembered my hubby’s words, “Don’t forget you have automatic traction on this car. If you have trouble on a hill, take off the traction.”

Well this wasn’t a hill but I needed to take off the auto track, because every time I would slip a little, the car automatically braked. I took off the auto track and with one push out I came.

Do we carry an auto tracking device? Do we spin our wheels?

I think we do. I think my auto track device keeps me from moving by keeping me doing the same old thing. I am going nowhere and spinning my wheels.

What keeps me from moving forward?
What keeps me from following my dreams?
What keeps me from following Jesus’ leading?

In the next few weeks I plan to share what I have been hearing from God for my own life and maybe what is keeping me from expanding my territory?

Satan always want to distract us from the work God wants us to do.

Have you noticed this? Do you have an auto traction device that keeps putting brakes on God’s plans for your life?

Let’s start a discussion either here in the comments or on Facebook or on Twitter.

Answer the question:

Are you spinning your wheels?

Let’s find out what auto track we have turned on that is keeping us from moving with God.

If you want God to move, sometimes you have to make a move. ~ Mark Batterson in The Circle Maker

But Mark also says this:

If you keep trying, you are not failing … God is honored when you don’t give up. ~ Mark Batterson in The Circle Maker

Prayer:

Lord, there is something holding me back from expanding my territory for Your glory. Show me what it is. Release it – if it is something that you need me to do. Take off the auto brakes. Help me to move forward and follow your plans and lead. In Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Go – The word this week is “willing”.

Are you willing to follow Me?

Luke-9-23

Path picture by Kimberley Payne

These first two months of this year, 2014, God has been prodding me to listen more to His Voice. I read The Circle Maker, Not a Fan, Kisses from Katie, and The Power of Persistent Prayer. Of course I also read the Bible. Right now I am reading through the New Testament for Lent with Margaret Feinberg.

Am I on the path that follows Jesus?

The question that keeps arising is, “Are you willing to follow Me?” And also I hear the repeated call, “Feed my lambs”.

My answer is a question, “How much, Lord?”

His answer, “All in”.

We started the first week of our new Bible Study on Not A Fan. Here are some take-aways from that first encounter with Jesus.

A follower gives Jesus the master key to his/her heart (soul).
I need to define this relationship I have with Jesus.
I need to ask myself where I have not allowed Jesus to enter in my life.

This week I start writing in the journal that Kyle provides for this study.

Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23, NIV).

My questions:

What does take up my cross mean?
What does deny myself really mean? – How is that possible?
How can I make each day – totally His?

STOP – I actually don’t want to stop – but I will continue to ask myself these questions; I will continue to ask God these questions; and I will try to tell you what I discover in the next 6 weeks of study.

What do you think?

My writing and my artwork twirl together. As I am led in one area the other one seems to follow.

Goals and plans are made but must remain open to God’s leading. I have tried writing schedules and except for my morning times, something always seems to interrupt them.

Being retired (read realignment), means my time is my own (not) – or should I say it is God’s time. As He inspires me and as He leads me I follow.

But here are some of my writing dreams:

      • to pray, to read, study, and listen to God
      • to relax and enjoy this experience
      • to continue to let God lead me
      • to publish more books
      • to find a rhythm to posting my blogs: I write on these sites, Under the Cover of Prayer, Family and Faith Matters, and Inscribe Writers Online
      • to tackle social media and get control of it so it doesn’t control me
      • to actually paint the illustrations for 2 books

Each year I try to find One Word for the year that God has given me. In 2012 it was TRUST. In 2013 it was LIVE.

I want to be ready to say, “Yes, Lord.”
