As I continued to study Mark for my Lenten study I read about Peter.

Peter reminds me of me. I get passionate and sometimes jump in where I shouldn’t. But I think passion is important. We need to find the heart beat of the purpose for our lives.

Michael Hyatt in his book Living Forward talks about the dangers of drift. (click here to tweet)

Life plan - Living Forward

If we keep living day to day without a passion we are drifting. I need something to be passionate about.

Peter was passionate about his relationship with Jesus. He vowed never to forsake Him

Mark 14:29 Peter says:

Even if all fall away, I will not.

And Mark 14:31 he says:

Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.

These are strong words, full of passion.

Then the events unfold and Jesus is arrested. The tables are turned. Reality has happened.

Peter denies knowing Jesus.

In Mark 15:71 Peter makes his 3rd final declaration.

I don’t know this man you are talking about.

Then the cock crowed for the second time.

And Peter remembered the words that Jesus had spoken:

Before the cock crows twice you will disown me three times.

As I studied this passage, I kept asking about my following Jesus.

Are there times I hear Him say to do something and I deny Him? (click here to tweet)

Yes

I say: “Oh Jesus doesn’t really want me to do that.”

Or “I can’t do that – I don’t have the skills.”

Or “I’m too old.”

Denial is fear.

Now when I hear His voice and I am faced with a decision I ask myself. What is the fear? Can I name it? What is the worst thing that will happen? Can I trust God to help me through?

Podcasting has been a brand new experience for me. This is podcast 52 – a whole year of audio production.

Was I fearful? Oh yes. Did I want to turn away? Yes a number of times.

But my passion was stronger than my fear. So I said, “Can I do it afraid?” (click to tweet this)

When I volunteered to lead a vacation Bible camp at our church I didn’t feel qualified. Did that stop me? No because I had a passion for the children to learn about Jesus. This summer will be my 6th or 7th summer running the camp. Every year, as I pray I wonder, am I getting too old for this. Every year, I do it afraid.

Peter may have denied Jesus but after the Lord’s resurrection Peter became a powerhouse for Him. He broke through his fear and trusted God. He was filled with the Holy Spirit.

Are there things that God has put on your heart but you have held off doing them because of fear?

Grace Fox has written a wonderful book called Moving From Fear to Freedom. She helps the reader see that we can do things afraid when we trust God.

Can I do it afraid

May I pray for you and me?

Lord, we want to be passionate in our following of You. Sometimes we hear Your call but are fearful. Help us to push past that fear and press on to do what You have called us to do, even if we do it afraid. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Until next time, as you read His Word and hear His voice, listen to His call on your life. Don’t be afraid. Or even if you are afraid – do what He calls you to do.

My Emphasis – Where is yours?

My Emphasis – Where is yours? – Hope Stream Radio Podcast

The reading this week for Lent led me to look at where I put my emphasis. You can either listen to the podcast or read the show notes. Either way I would love to hear your thoughts.

My emphasis

My emphasis

Here are the show notes for this week’s program for those who would rather read than listen.

What is Your Emphasis?

I was studying a familiar passage in the Bible the other day and God changed the emphasis of the words.

Mark 12:41-44 where Jesus is watching the people give to the treasury of the temple. I looked at verse 44.

They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.

My eyes had always looked at live and poverty. Totally poor, the widow was giving way more than the rich who gave such a small percentage of their wealth.

This time however I saw the words, Put In Everything. I know that at this point Jesus has been watching all the people give to the treasury – in 13 upside-down trumpet shaped vessels.

Put in Everything

This time God took me away from looking at the money aspect and made me look at the words “put in everything she had”. She had not much but she put it all in for God. Now she has only God left. She had emptied herself completely.

We have so much – and not just in money but in time, inspiration, creativity, family, love and education to name a few.

And the next week what passage came next in my Lenten study but Mark 14:1-9. In this story we read about the anointing of Jesus by a woman at the house of Simon the Leper in Bethany.

This time I focused on the verses 8-9. Jesus says:

She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial. Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.

Reading these two passages gave me a double look at whole-hearted worship.

Giving it all to Jesus. Where is my Emphasis?

My question is: Are we investing it ALL to His glory?

I see Michael Hyatt’s book, Living Forward  through God’s eyes.

When Michael says to take a long careful look at our lives – investigate, think, pray and ponder He is talking about our WHOLE lives.

Michael chooses what he calls LIFE ACCOUNTS and gives these examples:

You, faith, health, spouse, kids, finances, friends, work and hobbies. But you may choose any accounts you want.

To give everything to God we need to see our every thing. In order to give every thing I need to know where to put my emphasis.

I’m reminded of Micah 6:8

What does the LORD require of you? To act justly, and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

Listen to 1 Samuel 15:22:

Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as obeying the voice of the LORD?

And Hosea 6:6

For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgement of God rather than burnt offerings.

And Isaiah 1:16-17

Stop doing wrong, learn to do right. Seek justice, encourage the oppressed, Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.

All those verbs are needed to be added to my life profile.

Act, love, obey, acknowledge, seek, encourage, defend, plead.

And the nouns:

Justice, mercy, humility, God, the Voice, oppressed, fatherless, widows.

I made the word art to remind myself of the emphasis I need in my life.

I haven’t started my formal written life plan yet but God is giving me Scriptures and words to help me when I do. Those words will be my emphasis.

Do you have a life plan? Or are you on autopilot with no plan but drift? (click to tweet)

Life Plan – Do you have one?

Life Plan – Do you have one? Hope Stream Radio

This has been an interesting week. Lots happening. I have a new children’s book in the last stages before printing. The Kingdom of Thrim is coming. I have been focusing more on my life plan thanks to Michael Hyatt and Daniel Harkavy’s book, Living Forward.

Life Plan Hope Stream Radio

I podcast every Tuesday on Hope Stream Radio. This week I spoke about a Life Plan. Here are my show notes. You can listen to the podcast by clicking here

The word that I chose to focus on for this year is ABOUND. From a Scripture found in 2 Corinthians 9:8.

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things and at all times, you will abound in every good work.

I read the verse again in The Message:

God can pour on the blessings in astonishing ways so that you’re ready for anything and everything more than just ready to do what needs to be done.

That sounds like planning to me. A life plan. Ready for anything and everything. (click to tweet)

Think about that. We don’t know what the next moment will bring. We keep moving forward but need to be READY for anything and everything.

How?

I am on the launch team for a new book that came out yesterday called Living Forward. Michael Hyatt and Daniel Harkavy are the authors.

This book fits in well with my word ABOUND. The book walks us through a plan to take a close look at our lives and plan forward. I believe by prayer and planning we can accomplish more than we ever believed possible.

God has a plan and purpose for each life. We need to take the time to look at our lives and listen to God how we can move forward in that plan.

Listen to Psalm 90:12

Teach us to number our days,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Psalm 90:12 says TEACH us. That means listening and planning. A life plan. (click to tweet)

Jeanne Whittaker, is the founder of The Tabernacle Experience, This is a travelling exhibit to explain and show the Tabernacle from time of Moses right through to resurrection of Jesus. Jeanne heard God’s call. She didn’t only hear it – she acted on it. It was a big undertaking. But God is the God of the impossible.

Life Plan Tabernacle Came Alive

Our own story is similar. My husband read an article in an Arizonan paper about a charity that helped single parents further their education past high school. He felt God’s call. In our small town, a year later, we started HASP – Haliburton Assistance for Single Parents. Our first client is set to graduate this spring.

Our world expands when God is in control. (click to tweet)

Have you found the purpose for your life?

Thomas Carlyle said:

The man without a purpose is like a ship without a rudder.

The book Living Forward has three aims:

  1. It will heighten your senses of what’s truly possible for you in life.
  2. It will equip you to make better decisions in your life.
  3. It will position you to make the most significant contribution in this world that you can add the most value to those around you.

God wants us to be ready for anything and everything. I believe a Life Plan is necessary to accomplish this.

Whether you look at this book or not, we all need to look at our lives.

What is your life plan? I plan to be in prayer about this very thing.

May I pray for you and me?

Lord, you have a purpose for our lives. We seek you to help us see where we’ve been, where we are and how you want us to live forward. We want to be ready for life – whatever happens. Help us to be full of Your Spirit so we can abound in every good work.

Until next time, seek God and specifically ask Him to show you His purpose and plan for Your life.

Remember the verse from Colossians 1:17

He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
