Sunday Stillness – What is God Calling You to Do?

Sunday Stillness – What is God calling you to do?

We have to make an expression of the new life, to form the mind of Christ ~ Oswald Chambers.

AHA – Don’t get stuck in the pigpen.

That’s how Kyle Idleman puts it in his new book, AHA. Remember the prodigal son – he woke up to needing his father when he was stuck with the pigs – actually lower than the pigs. But he didn’t stay there. He got moving. It says:

So he got up and went to his father (Luke 15:20, NIV).

When we have been given the mind of Christ we can’t stay in the same position. God is calling us.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19, NIV).

Each of us is being called to do this. Are you hearing His call?

God creates, blesses, and saves each of us for a radically global purpose ~ David Platt.

I read an excerpt from David Platt’s book, Radical – Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream. We are not to sit comfortably on the sidelines cheering on our missionary friends. All of us are called to “go”.

Has Christ been knocking on your heart?

Are you stuck in the pen – or are you going to make the move and listen to God?

If God is calling you – you need to answer the call.

The truth is we need to obey God even when we don’t feel like it ~ Kyle Idleman.

I am off to Poland for my 5th mission trip this summer. I love to watch God take control of my life. I love to watch Him work out things that I can’t deal with. I want to carry out His plan. Do I always “feel” like going. No – not really. But I know that it is right to go.

Each follower of Christ in the New Testament, regardless of his or her calling, was intended to take up the mantel of proclaiming the gospel to the end of the earth ~ David Platt.

Remember to say: “Here I am. Send me.”

International Messengers needs volunteers to go to Romania this summer. Please email me for further information if God is putting this on your heart. I will connect you.

You may not consider that you are stuck in a pigpen. But if you are not moving where God is calling you  – that is exactly where you are – the pigpen. Our new lives are about obeying Christ.

You may not be called to “go” abroad, but you are definitely being called to “go” somewhere.

What is God calling you to do? Please don’t wait. Do it (whatever “it” is). And do it now.

Lord, I know that there is someone out there reading this whom you have called to move in a certain direction. Help them to hear from you directly so they will know for sure and will make the move to where you are calling them. If you are calling them to take a short-term mission trip make it abundantly clear to them so they will get up, say yes and go.

Today is Sunday Stillness.

Read the Sunday Stillness rules if you are new here.

I would appreciate if you would link only about God’s Word. If you have a linky party that’s okay if it is about the same thing. Please no sales or prizes. I want this to be friendly but I must ask you to abide by the rules. Others want to read God’s Word – and that is what I would like the links to be about. I must take down the links that don’t follow the rules. Thanks so much.

Please check out all the places I link to during the week. Thanks to everyone who has joined Sunday Stillness. I do try to get to your posts every week but I admit sometimes I don’t have the time.

Can I Please See Clearly, Lord?

Can I Please See Clearly, Lord?

I wrote in my journal specific prayers for me. My first one read:

1. To see clearly what You want me to do.

As I read my morning devotionals that morning it became very clear that God would not answer my first request the way I thought. But He did answer it, His way.

Here is what I found out:

You don’t know what you are going to do. The only thing you know is that God knows what He is doing (Oswald Chambers, January 2).

It is not for me to know. As I read Oswald Chambers that morning I realized that if I place my trust in Jesus I need not know the answer to that question, “May I see clearly?”

By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going (Hebrews 11:8, NIV). Emphasis is mine.

Each day I need only to pray and then to “go out” trusting God will be with me.

Wherever I go and whatever I do.

Each morning as you wake, there is an opportunity to “go out” building your confidence in God (Oswald Chambers, January 2).

Here is a video by Chris Tomlin – I Will Follow

And as I am reading Not a Fan, by Kyle Idelman I know these truths:

If I am to be a follower of Jesus, I will follow NOT lead. (tweet this)

If I am to be a follower of Jesus, I will remember that I am a slave of Jesus and He is the Master. (tweet this)

Thank You for answering my request, not as I expected, but You did answer it. I don’t need to see clearly. I need only to follow You, Jesus. In Your Name, I pray. AMEN.

Are You Unleashing the Power of the Holy Spirit?

Are You Unleashing the Power of the Holy Spirit?

by Janis Cox

I have started to read a great book called Not a Fan by Kyle Idleman.

It is a challenging read and I am taking it slowly.

Get out your highlighter and let Kyle take you back to the core of Christianity. You may never enjoy being challenged more than reading this clear, compelling, and winsome book (Lee Strobel).

Lee Strobel, is the author of Case for Christ, a book that changed my understanding of Who Jesus is.

Kyle Idleman’s, is the author of Not a Fan, a book that is changing my understanding of the Holy Spirit.

Today I read a chapter on the Holy Spirit. I am not even finished the chapter but one part startled me enough to want to tell you about it.

I have heard people say, “Wouldn’t it be great to have lived in the times of the Old Testament?”

What would it have been like to hear God’s voice and see him move in such powerful ways? (Kyle Idleman)

And then are those who say the same about the New Testament. They wished they could have been with Jesus and see the miracles.

But then Kyle reminds us that we have a more powerful connection to God through the Holy Spirit.

While God with you is good, God in you is better (Kyle Idleman).

Jesus could be with his followers, but the Holy Spirit would live in his followers (Kyle Idleman).

So let’s give the Holy Spirit time to work in us this week.

Father, we thank You for loving us; for sending Jesus to live with us; for sending the Holy Spirit to live in us. Help us to learn more and listen to You, through the Holy Spirit. We pray in Jesus’ Name. AMEN.
