May 13 – 3 gifts found in your Mother

Grandma

  • my Mother had perseverance. When we were growing up my Dad had a broken back (which he kept healthy by exercises); my sister became diabetic at 10 years of age; I suffered from asthma from age 3. Mom kept us all organized and healthy.
  • my Mother had a sweetness of spirit, a wonderful smile and she loved people and people loved her
  • my Mother was humble and was always doing something for others

May 14 ~ a gift picked up; put away and put back

  • picked up: I love picking up my Bible, Oswald Chambers and Jesus Calling every morning
  • put away: I a learning (slowly) to put away my stuff as I use it. Learning this habit.
  • put back: I put back all the spices I used for dinner. I love how spices can make a meal sing.

May 15 ~ 3 gifts about you

  • I am determined
  • I love to encourage others by prayers, offering Scriptures and listening to their troubles
  • I am disciplined. My allergies made me learn to focus on making good choices.

May 16 ~ 3 gifts found in the Word

  • Proverbs 19:21 – the Lord’s purpose prevails
  • 1 John 5:14 – if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us
  • Romans 12:12 – Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction and faithful in prayer

May 17 ~ a gifts in a box; in a bag; in a book

  • in a box: I found some bridge tallies (my Mom’s) in a box. I found a friend who likes bridge and donated them to her
  • in a bag: my Hubby does the grocery shopping and brings home all the groceries in reusable bags
  • in a book: I read a chapter or two a night; I love historical fiction; right now I am reading biblical historical fiction by Bunn and Oke, the Acts of Faith Series; I am in the second one.

May 18 ~ 3 gifts unexpected

  • a dream I remembered. A black monster in the sky; I headed to the crawl space; I had no fear. Our crawl space is on bedrock. I have a firm foundation. Stick with Jesus – He is our Rock
  • I learned to write the Lord’s Prayer in my own words
  • all our family will be meeting together on Sunday (and it didn’t rain)

May 19 ~ 3 gifts from childhood

  • safety – I always felt safe
  • love – I always felt the love of my parents and my sister
  • my sister – a continuing gift to me

May 20 ~ a gifts sweet; sour; and salty

These all come from our family day together

  • gift sweet: fruit cocktail with raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and canteloupe
  • gift sour: my grandson had a sour expression as he hadn’t had enough sleep the night before (firecrackers); but he perked up after a little snooze in the car
  • salty: we had corn chips for dinner instead of potatoes or rice

May 21 ~ 3 gifts found in little people

  • exuberance – grandchildren who ran and played all day
  • laughter while playing Monopoly with my granddaughter
  • cuddles and snuggles with our 2 month old grandson

May 22 ~ 3 gifts that made you laugh

  • Snowball’s excitement when she sees me first thing in the morning – kisses, and her whole body is shaking with love

  • my friend learning to laugh at herself when she makes mistakes (she is a perfectionist); made me laugh too
  • seeing the number of reading glasses my Hubby has lying around our house (all from the dollar store)

May 23 ~ 3 gifts found in community

  • reviewing the notes from our community association AGM and the members support of the directors’ initiatives
  • watching how our entire county is rallying around raising funds for flood relief in Minden
  • how our Pregnancy Care Centre has become, in 7 years, a vital presence in the lives of moms and dads

May 24 ~ a gift in a plate; a pot; and a package

  • in a plate: I love my new less expensive but great looking kitchen plates
  • in a pot: I love my oatmeal every morning for breakfast especially as my Hubby makes it
  • in a package: getting my raffle basket ready for a conference

May 25 ~ 3 gifts hard giving thanks for

  • a very tired body
  • disappointment in low sales at the conference
  • frustration in knowing whether what we are doing  in marketing is making sense

May 26 ~ a gift worn, white and whispered

  • a gift worn: thankful I took my warmer coat on this trip as it was chilly out
  • a gift white: we took our white boat out of the garage, getting it ready to launch
  • a gift whispered: I heard God’s whisper today as I rested in Him on the Sabbath

    • caring people at Women’s Day Together meeting – prayer – Women of Christ

May 7 ~ 3 gifts about your home

    • funny that today was the day for sorting and throwing out. My hubby always says, “Junk expands to fill the space available”. So I am dejunking because we have the gift of space
    • a porch where I can sit in the shade and the black flies have not found me yet

    • a place to write, to paint, to eat, to sit and sleep and lots of space when family visits

May 8 ~ 3 gifts inside a closet

    • storage for art, sewing, paper
    • place for my clothes
    • finding things inside my closets to gift, recycle, give away or toss out

May 9 ~ 3 gifts found in the dark

    • the night sky in the Highlands – expansive, bright stars and the moon
    • deep deep sleep – love our dark room and living in the country – no city lights
    • shutting my eyes to pray, to focus

May 10 ~ a gift outside, inside and upside down

    • outside: walking around and see the blossoms of spring (we are slower up here in the Highlands) and the welcome spring rain

May 11 ~ 3 gifts about your parents

    • remembering them on their knees beside their bed every night in prayer
    • they were always there when needed; nurturing with food, encouragement, fun and faith
    • knowing that both Mom and Dad are together again in heaven, dancing as they always loved to do

      • a bar of soap for my morning shower – we take this for granted
      • a Hymn book and singing Rejoice the Lord is King
      • a Taco for Mother’s Day – one of my favourite dishes (easy, quick and delicious)

April 15 ~ gift in a bag; in a box; a book

  • a bag ~ finally got over to Bracebridge to buy some needed items – put them in a bag
  • a box ~ also bought a new set of dishes – ours were over 20 years old and my hubby getting very tired of them
  • a book ~ bought another Jesus Calling – left my other one in Arizona

April 16 ~ 3 hard Eucharisteos

Didn’t really want to read this one today. It is my birthday. Is that a hard Eucharisteo? – not really. I am a year old but much wiser and closer to God.

  • my brother-in-law is still in the hospital
  • my youngest daughter’s 1 year old has a fever
  • I didn’t feel well during the night

April 17 ~ 3 gifts woven together

  • this one was fun as today three women of faith met together to discuss our blog Family and Faith Matters – as we seek to feed God’s sheep. We have become woven together into a strong cord – thank You, Lord

  • there are some artists in my family – so maybe I inherited that gift

  • very grateful to have a square meal when we are running late – leftovers
  • we bought square dishes this time – I like them
  • sometimes we get “boxed in” to do something one way – but getting out of that box can mean freedom. I pray that I may be aware when God moves so that I don’t stay in a box

After my week’s blogging holiday I have 2 weeks of blessings to tell you. I kept doing the Scavenger Hunt. Some days were difficult but I think I managed to capture them.

  • peace when I could have been frustrated with a telephone provider

This was travel day.

  • 11 am: waiting in line at the airport (long line) but people loved Snowball
  • 2 pm: we are somewhere over the United States in our airplane; working on my memory work
  • 6 pm: haven’t landed yet but feeling great

April 6 ~ 3 gifts nailed together

This was a tough one.

  • boards to make a fence in a backyard 
  • a home built so we can have shelter (2x4s made a sturdy home)
  • upholstery nailed to the wood to make a couch

April 7 ~ 3 gifts waited for

  • seeing our 6th new grandchild – and holding him for the first time – over 2 weeks waiting
  • I think of Snowball who always is waiting for the words, “Let’s go for a walk”.
  • a good dinner out with 4 kids, 4 adults and 1 baby

April 8 ~ 3 gifts rising up

  • finally got up at 6:30 am (Jet lag of 3 hours – meaning it really was 3:30am Arizona time)
  • waiting for children who will be rising up for school in a couple of minutes
  • waiting for the cupcakes to rise (granddaughter and friend made strawberry cupcakes)

April 9 ~ a gift hiding, a gift held, a gift heard

  • Hiding: The phone was hiding and I couldn’t find it. I followed the ring and there it was
  • Held: the hands of my grandchildren on a walk and in prayer before bed
  • Heard: Getting used to noises of the city; people close by; bangs

April 10 ~ 3 gifts opened up

  • my eyes, Lord, yes You opened my eyes to see You
  • the sky; the clouds parted and the sky opened; the rain and the thunder stopped before I had to pick up the children from school
  • You opened my eyes to spring as I saw my first robin

April 11 ~ 3 gifts budding and blooming

  • my grandchildren – I saw 5 of them this week – budding and blooming
  • not much budding in Haliburton yet – snow still here; dull grey but I know under the earth is new life forming

April 12 ~ 3 gifts worn

  • I did not get worn out travelling this past week
  • I am memorizing Scripture so it can be worn at all times as suggested in Deuteronomy 11:18
  • my Bible is getting worn – that is a good sign that it is being read. Some pages are dog-eared

April 13 ~ 3 gifts bright

  • this morning we do not have the bright daily sun of Arizona – dull, cloudy, cold
  • thankful for our overhead lights which give us lots of brightness on a dull day
  • from Job 11:17 

Life will be brighter than noonday,
and darkness will become like morning.

And the song Amazing Grace:

 When we’ve been here ten thousand years…
bright shining as the sun.
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise…
then when we’ve first begun.

April 14 ~ 3 gifts found looking up

  • this morning at 6 am I looked outside; cloud and snow on the ground; but there was a tiny bit of blue sky
  • as we drove to church I looked through the sunroof and out came the sun, shining brightly – yahoo
  • as we attended our church service I looked up at the choir and there were smiling faces saying welcome home

  • our time here in Arizona is drawing to a close – fruit trees, flowers, dust, allergies – colourful

  • using my eyes to read the newspaper, see the computer, and see God’s creation
  • using my gift of administration to organize my blog and writing
  • using my gift of communication to write

  • how God brought me to know the Bible Babes and how our lives are becoming entwined
  • the people that God has brought into our lives in Arizona – sometimes fascinating who knows whom  – 6 degrees of separation?
  • a Bible verse to show the strength of God in our lives:

“A cord of three strands is not quickly broken” (Ecclesiates 4:12, NIV).

  • Hebrews 13:5 –  Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,

  • we found BMO Harris in Arizona that will connect directly with our bank in Canada to make it easier for us
  • Oswald Chambers (March 30) – always has me thinking. He said: 

“Preaching the Gospel has its share of pitfalls, but intercessory prayer has none whatsoever.”

“The God we serve is able … and He will.”

March 31 ~ a gift heard, held and hoped for

  • heard: wonderful sermon this morning – “He is risen.” “We do not need to fear death”.

  • held: I snuggled with Snowball this afternoon

  • Podcasting – taking a course by Kelley McCausey. Lots of new learning
  • A special gift from my granddaughter – the cards and words printed by herself

March 12 ~ 3 gifts – in wind, in water, in white

  • wind  – very still today but a light warm breeze blew across my face as I drove the golf cart
  • water – washing my paint brush out in art class
  • white – a wonderful post about a white bedroom and white from the Solo Deo Gloria Party by Elizabeth.

“All I could see was white, and I knew to head for the most restful room in the house. How fine it was to ease my dry bonesdown into colorless comfort. To cease striving. To wait for hope to be breathed back into my parched limbs and purpose infused into my soul. I think I only closed my eyes for about 20 delicious minutes, but I came up out of whiteness, refreshed. “

March 14 ~ 3 gifts found in silence

  • my quiet time with God
  • sitting at a stop light – only me in the car – no music
  • a lovely afternoon nap

March 15 ~ 3 gifts given away

  • a book – Tadeo Turtle – to send to a friend in Poland
  • my time to set up for Arts and Crafts sale
  • encouragement to friends in emails and prayer

  • didn’t sleep well – allergies and hubby snoring – but able to go to Arts and Craft Fair – in His Strength.
  • maybe not allergies – a cold?

March 17 – 3 gifts, – turned, folded and hung

  • turned: I love that I turned on the tap and out came hot water
  • folded: We folded the clean sheets together
  • Hung: Hooks to hang up the towels to dry

As I continue to count the gifts I feel like I have been on a scavenger hunt seeking new things. A wonderful week searching and looking. Thanks so much to Ann Voskamp for leading this journey.

I have to admit that I had trouble focussing on some of these clues this week. Particularly on the loud one. We are so quiet down here that there isn’t too much noise. Although I admit I just found one – the dishwasher – it is irritatingly loud. Day isn’t over yet – just getting this post set up for Monday – so I will keep my ears open for the rest of the day – loud.

March 4 ~ 3 gifts hard to give thanks for

  • a sinus headache – spring must be coming
  • a grandbaby who has a fever (then we find out croup) PS He is much better.
  • sore nose from new glasses

March 5 ~ 3 gifts found

  • found time to continue my memory work
  • found help from hubby to fix my photo frames for the art show
  • found another frame I needed from Costco

March 6 ~ bent, broken and beautiful

  • My new glasses – just don’t feel right
  • breaking of my heart – to hear a young woman who needs a lung transplant
  • being able to create – made a children’s craft with tissue paper

March 7 ~ 3 gifts found in the kitchen

  • plentiful water
  • enough food in the fridge
  • a loving hubby who cleans up the kitchen

March 8 ~ 3 gifts loud

  • thunder in the desert – a big boom this morning and a few during the day
  • my dishwasher (I love it but it is so noisy)
  • my oven (I love it but it is so noisy when I turn it off the fan continues to make an irritating sound)

March 9 ~ 3 gifts carved

  • I carve an apple every morning – Braeburn apples, very inexpensive in Arizona

  • we love stir fry so I chop lots of vegetables
  • some day I want to learn to carve soapstone. Right now I am going to try to carve a piece of soap to be a Tadeo Turtle. We’ll see what happens.

March 10 ~ 3 gifts in Christ

  •  In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples” (Luke 14:33, NIV). We are learning about this in Experiencing God – to be able to give up everything for Jesus.
  • Knowing that, “it never works. God does.”
  • Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,” (Ephesians 3:20, NIV).

There were not too many clues that lent themselves to pictures for me this week so I thought I would leave you with some great wonder shots.

  • cashiers with smiles, helpful sales clerks
  • as I traverse the Internet, beautiful words of faith-filled women and men
  • renewed in my spirit – by taking the time to talk to God

February 12 – 3 Hard Eucharisteos

  • my aunt Dorothy passed away – not many left from that generation
  • watching friends with husbands suffering
  • watching family member struggle when someone close to her suffered a loss

February 13 – 3 gifts behind a door

  • a door that opens so I can have a visit to my Naturopath – what a blessing she is
  • a door into my tap dancing class – fun, music and fellowship
  • opening the freezer door to find lots of great food ready to be cooked

February 14 – 3 ways you feel the love of God

  • sitting in the sunshine studying Max Lucado’s book, In the Grip of Grace
  • during my Bible study with the Bible Babes – loved and accepted

  • enjoying my husband’s company on Valentine’s day and every day, a rose from a Valentine’s dance

February 15 – a gift in losing, in finding, and making something

  • I dropped $2.00 and didn’t notice it;

  • seeing the sweet faces of children as I told the story and they acted out the parts
  • watching how they listened to the story and remembered it

As I continue to count the gifts I feel like I have been on a scavenger hunt seeking new things. A wonderful week searching and looking. Thanks so much to Ann Voskamp for leading this journey.

February 4 ~ Three gifts found when bent down

  • our little dog, Snowball, loves it when I get on the ground – eye to eye
  • when I kneel to pray the Lord always is there

  • as I get down on the ground with children there is more intimacy

February 5 ~ A gift stitched, hammered and woven

  • made all those Tadeos for the fair and need to start another production
  • Wayne is a wonderful carpenter; our homes are always filled with his beautiful handiwork

  • I saw a beautiful woven afghan at a friend’s home with a lovely message to help her in her fight against cancer

February 6 ~ 3 Gifts found outside

  • ducks around our lake – Snowball loves to send them into the water

  • I love watching the heron. He stands majestic and even when he decides to fly off he does so with purpose and precision.

  • the sound of birds in our trees -listen to the music

 

February 7 ~ A gift at 11:30 am, 2:30 pm and 6:30 pm

  • an early lunch before Bible study – yummy leftover stew
  • warm, caring conversation at the end of our Bible study after prayer time
  • hard Eucharisteo – our pregnant daughter in the hospital – prayers lifted by loyal intercessors, she is getting better

February 8 ~ A gift broken, fixed, and thrifted

  • I think of communion with a gift broken “this bread is broken for you, Christ’s body”.
  • my husband is “Mr. Fix-it”. I am so thankful for marrying someone who can fix things.
  • we like to go to the Goodwill or Salvation Army stores to look for odd things – I found a small crock pot to heat the wax for my batik paintings

February 9 ~ 3 surprise gifts – unexpected grace!

  • a friend asked me to try painting pictures for her new children’s book

  • learning to sketch drapery
  • we had a wonderful time at a dance; met new friends and renewed old friendships

February 10 ~ 3 times you heard laughter today

  • children at the Sunday School listened to a story time. Funny expressions on the child actor. He did a great job.
  • I can always hear laughter when my husband is reading the newspaper; watching something on the Internet
  • catching errors when I write. I wrote, “eating wax, instead of heating wax”. That made me laugh.
