Lenten Review 2016

Lenten Review 2016 – Word of God Speak Linkup

This is a Lenten review 2016. For each week this year I used my S.I.M.P.L.E. Bible Study Method to study each verse. Then I painted in my Bible. I am trying to memorize these scriptures too.

Lent One: Read Mark 9:14-29

Memory Verse

Mark 9:23  “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”

I Believe – If you can, I can.

I know that I am grateful that I believe, grateful for Jesus.

Lenten Review 2016

Lent Two: Read Mark 10:32-34

Memory Verse

Proverbs 28:1 The wicked flee though no one pursues,
but the righteous are as bold as a lion.

Jesus Leads the Way – Follow Him

Reading through the passage made me see the word resolute, and determined. Learning from Jesus I need to be bold as well.

Lenten Review 2016

Lent Three: Read Mark 11:27-33

Memory Verse

Colossians 1:17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Time, how God can expand it.

I learned to submit to His authority and time expands to get done what He needs me to do.

Lenten Review 2016

Lent Four: Read Mark 12:41-44

Memory Verse

Mark 12:44  “They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

Put in Everything

To give without expecting to get anything back.

Lenten Review 2016

Read Mark 14:3-9

Memory Verse

Mark 14:9 “Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”

Alabaster Jar – Giving it All to Jesus

I know I will worship Jesus by studying, praising and proclaiming His Word.

Lenten Review 2016Read Mark 14:66-72

Memory Verse

Mark 14:72 Immediately the rooster crowed the second time. Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows twice you will disown me three times.” And he broke down and wept.

Peter’s Lesson

A look at how fear can cripple us. We need to be as bold as lions, not afraid. Or at least if we are afraid not to stop – but move forward with God at our side.

Tuesday Thoughts – Christmas Cards?

Tuesday Thoughts – Christmas Cards?

From Free Digital. Net

From Free Digital. Net

I have been working on our annual Christmas letter – a little update on our family and a few pictures. It doesn’t take long and many of our friends and family have expressed delight in watching our family grow.

We take the Word file over to Staples and have them print out the copies, then stuff them in envelopes – and print the address labels (after updating of course).

As I attach each label to the envelope I say a prayer for that family.

What do you do to keep in touch with your family and friends at Christmas?

For to us a Child will be born. To us a Son will be given. And the rule of the nations will be on His shoulders. His name will be called Wonderful, Teacher, Powerful God, Father Who Lives Forever, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6 NLV).

Can I Joy Dare You? – Week 9

As I continue to count the gifts I feel like I have been on a scavenger hunt seeking new things. A wonderful week searching and looking. Thanks so much to Ann Voskamp for leading this journey.

I will be adding a LINK today for those of you who would like to put in your lists of gifts. No matter whether you are doing the specific Joy Dare or listing your gifts – please join me this week. And let’s praise God for all the wonders He is showing us.

February 25 ~ 3 gifts worn out, new and made-do

  • old socks that Snowball loves to use as toys; but she also loves any socks so we have to make sure we put all socks away from her keen sense of “sockiness”

Worn Out

  • daffodils in the desert; such a beautiful sight. I had to go and check if they were real or plastic

  • I couldn’t find the journals I like but found one that would work okay

February 26 ~ 3 gifts seen as reflections

I couldn’t stop seeing reflections after reading this clue

February 27 ~ 3 ugly-beautiful gifts

This one had me stumped. I had to pray for wisdom and vision.

  • Michael Bull Roberts – a gangster turned Christ follower – I don’t even see him as ugly now because of his beautiful heart, soul and spirit. God is using him mightily for the Kingdom.

Here is a website about Michael. The writer states: “A man covered in tattoos from head to toe, 300 pounds and one of the scariest looking guys I’ve ever seen turned to be the most caring person I’ve ever met.”

His Facebook page: Michael Bull Roberts

  • art – looking at different pieces of art – beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. What I see as an ugly painting or not my best – others rave about. I can’t figure it out. Here is a kingfisher – the whole batik process didn’t go the way it was supposed to  – I had running ink from a non-permanent pen, it got messy but lots of people love this painting. Go figure.

  • an ugly little caterpillar – this is my favourite – how an ugly little caterpillar which crawls on the ground, feels creepy when I hold it – can become a beautiful butterfly who can soar high up in the skies

February 28 ~ 3 gifts of the past that help you trust the future

  • the healing of my back, jaw, neck, knees and my soul – thanks be to God
  • my hubby standing steadfastly beside me through the years – through highs and lows
  • the people that I have met who have a strong faith and whom  God brings into my life all the time

March 1 ~ 3 gifts at 3 pm

  • a lovely walk around our lake

Walk at 3pm

  • there was a school of fish that congregated at the bridge. We couldn’t figure out how they didn’t slip over the bridge. As we watched a number of them came close to doing that. And why were they all there? But I forgot my camera – you will have to visualize them there – and I will take another shot another day.

  • it is getting warmer here in Arizona and the sun’s warmth is beautiful

March 2 ~ 3 gifts green

Everywhere I go here in Arizona I see green. And what has been brown is turning green.

Daffodils - Green in the Desert

March 3 ~ 3 gifts wore

I thought about this one for a long time.

The garments made by man – wear out.
But the garments that God gives us don’t wear out. Tweet this.

  • a belt of truth (Ephesians 6:14)
  • a garment of praise (Psalm 61:3)
  • a garment of salvation (Isaiah 61:10)

Would love to hear your comments. And please feel free to either put your gifts in the comments or add your link.

Can I Joy Dare You? – Week 7

As I continue to count the gifts I feel like I have been on a scavenger hunt seeking new things. A wonderful week searching and looking. Thanks so much to Ann Voskamp for leading this journey.

February 11 – 3 gifts working

  • cashiers with smiles, helpful sales clerks
  • as I traverse the Internet, beautiful words of faith-filled women and men
  • renewed in my spirit – by taking the time to talk to God

February 12 – 3 Hard Eucharisteos

  • my aunt Dorothy passed away – not many left from that generation
  • watching friends with husbands suffering
  • watching family member struggle when someone close to her suffered a loss

February 13 – 3 gifts behind a door

  • a door that opens so I can have a visit to my Naturopath – what a blessing she is
  • a door into my tap dancing class – fun, music and fellowship
  • opening the freezer door to find lots of great food ready to be cooked

February 14 – 3 ways you feel the love of God

  • sitting in the sunshine studying Max Lucado’s book, In the Grip of Grace
  • during my Bible study with the Bible Babes – loved and accepted

  • enjoying my husband’s company on Valentine’s day and every day, a rose from a Valentine’s dance

February 15 – a gift in losing, in finding, and making something

  • I dropped $2.00 and didn’t notice it;
  • a gentleman tracked me down to give it back
  • a delicious dinner of garlic scallops, quinoa with spinach, and green beans

February 16 – 3 gifts of shadows

February 17 – 3 gifts found while giving/serving

  • fun, fun and more fun Sunday morning storytelling at 2 Sunday School services
  • seeing the sweet faces of children as I told the story and they acted out the parts
  • watching how they listened to the story and remembered it

Can I Joy Dare You? – Week 6

As I continue to count the gifts I feel like I have been on a scavenger hunt seeking new things. A wonderful week searching and looking. Thanks so much to Ann Voskamp for leading this journey.

February 4 ~ Three gifts found when bent down

  • our little dog, Snowball, loves it when I get on the ground – eye to eye
  • when I kneel to pray the Lord always is there

reading to baby

  • as I get down on the ground with children there is more intimacy

February 5 ~ A gift stitched, hammered and woven

  • made all those Tadeos for the fair and need to start another production
  • Wayne is a wonderful carpenter; our homes are always filled with his beautiful handiwork

  • I saw a beautiful woven afghan at a friend’s home with a lovely message to help her in her fight against cancer

February 6 ~ 3 Gifts found outside

  • ducks around our lake – Snowball loves to send them into the water

  • I love watching the heron. He stands majestic and even when he decides to fly off he does so with purpose and precision.

  • the sound of birds in our trees -listen to the music

February 7 ~ A gift at 11:30 am, 2:30 pm and 6:30 pm

  • an early lunch before Bible study – yummy leftover stew
  • warm, caring conversation at the end of our Bible study after prayer time
  • hard Eucharisteo – our pregnant daughter in the hospital – prayers lifted by loyal intercessors, she is getting better

February 8 ~ A gift broken, fixed, and thrifted

  • I think of communion with a gift broken “this bread is broken for you, Christ’s body”.
  • my husband is “Mr. Fix-it”. I am so thankful for marrying someone who can fix things.
  • we like to go to the Goodwill or Salvation Army stores to look for odd things – I found a small crock pot to heat the wax for my batik paintings

February 9 ~ 3 surprise gifts – unexpected grace!

  • a friend asked me to try painting pictures for her new children’s book

  • learning to sketch drapery
  • we had a wonderful time at a dance; met new friends and renewed old friendships

February 10 ~ 3 times you heard laughter today

  • children at the Sunday School listened to a story time. Funny expressions on the child actor. He did a great job.
  • I can always hear laughter when my husband is reading the newspaper; watching something on the Internet
  • catching errors when I write. I wrote, “eating wax, instead of heating wax”. That made me laugh.
