Sunday Stillness – Seek His Kingdom

Sunday Stillness – Seek His Kingdom

Seek-His-Kingdom

Seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well (Luke12:31, NIV).

I have joined Margaret Feinberg and 10 000 others in reading through the New Testament for Lent. So far I am keeping up.

Of course I can’t just read the words. I have to study them; question them; and write down my thoughts.

While reading Luke I came across this passage. I remembered a similar passage from Matthew in the King James Version.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you (Matthew 6:33, KJV).

What it meant to me is for me to be on the lookout for God in my day. When I received this picture above in the mail I immediately saw the cross. I had a similar experience when I was taking pictures early in the morning last year. Take a look at the picture below. It was an aha moment as I searched for reflections in pictures.

As I make myself more aware of God around me – I see more. Are you looking for the presence of God? Try it. Seek His Kingdom.

May you all have a blessed week.

Sunday Stillness – Prayer of Jabez

Sunday Stillness – Prayer of Jabez

Prayer-of-Jabez-page-41

This is our third week in studying the Prayer of Jabez at church. As I repeat each day, “Lord, bless me indeed, expand my territory,” I see things differently. I take the time to connect with people on Twitter, on Facebook and in my personal life. God still gives me ample time to finish what other tasks need to done.

‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty (Zechariah 4:6, NIV).

If I want to be a true follow of Jesus I need to spend time with Him, to listen to Him and get to know Him better. Then I hope God will work through me to expand my territory (my ministry).

As I work through two strong faith-filled books (Prayer of Jabez and Not a Fan) and read through the New Testament as a Lenten discipline, it seems like a big challenge. But nothing is impossible with God. Somehow I am doing this and not stressed in the least. Thank You, Lord.

God always intervenes when you put His agenda before yours and go for it (Bruce Wilkinson, Prayer of Jabez)!

Sunday Stillness – Mark 11:24

Sunday Stillness – Mark 11:24

Mark-11-24

Picture is from Free Digital Photos.Net

I am reading through the New Testament with Margaret Feinberg as a Lenten exercise. I started earlier because I knew I needed more time than 40 days.

As I read through Mark, I came across:

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours (Mark 11:24, NIV).

We doubt a lot. We wonder if it would be possible for God to answer our prayers. And here Jesus says, “believe you have received it.”

In The Message I read this:

Include everything as you embrace this God-life, and you’ll get God’s everything (Mark 11:24, The Message).

Embracing the God-life – listening to His Voice, acting on His Word, praying persistently.

Every day I try harder and harder to do this. And I have seen miracles, divine appointments and God moving mountains.

I believe I have received it when I pray. Do you?

Sunday Stillness – Psalm 91:1

Sunday Stillness –  Psalm 91:1

Psalm-91-1

This past week my hubby and I went away on a short holiday. As we travelled south from Mesa, Arizona towards Bisbee the mountain ranges held my attention. I had been reading Psalm 91 every day and the first line of that Psalm rang clear.

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty (Psalm 91:1, NIV).

I had noticed while in the town of Bisbee – a town built into the mountains that the sun is obscured by 4pm. But also the wind is less as well. Definitely we were sheltered. I felt the Presence of God as I looked at those mountains and thought about this Scripture. We are sheltered by His Presence; we are under His shadow – safe and secure.

Blessed be the Name of the Lord.

I found Psalm 91 put to music. This is quite lovely.

Sunday Stillness – Psalm 91 – LOVE

Sunday Stillness – Psalm 91 – LOVE

Psalm-91

Continuing with the love theme for February. Psalm 91 is one that I am saying aloud and praying each day for the whole month. Do you LOVE the Lord?

In Junes 2008 I heard the Lord say to start a prayer blog. I said, “Who me? I am not gifted in praying.”

He replied, “I AM”.

So Under the Cover of Prayer was started because I love the Lord. There have been a few hiccups. Once I became fearful that I couldn’t write as well as my contributors and people would compare my feeble attempts to my more polished writers and those who knew more about prayer. So I stopped writing and just posted their words. One night God convicted me. Oh did I hear Him strongly. You can read about that incident at Under the Cover of Prayer in a post called Convicted at 2am.

But through all the ups and downs of learning to post and seeking contributors and guest bloggers, God has been faithful to send me posts to fill my queue. He always rescues me.

Drop over to Under the Cover of Prayer – seek His Face in a close communion through prayer.

God will rescue us if we call upon Him.

I will call upon the LORD, for he will answer me, give ear to me and hear my prayer (Psalm 17:6, NIV).

Sunday Stillness – 1 Corinthians 13:8

Sunday Stillness – 1 Corinthians 13:8

1-Cor.-13-8

In all things we need love. That is why love never fails – it never gives up. Jesus taught us that.

However, in this world we get side-tracked into thinking that we can control things; that people must do things our way.

Instead God calls us to do things His way and to delight in it.

I delight to do Thy will, O my God (Psalm 40:8, KJV).

Do you or I foster the “meek and quiet spirit” or a “spirit of self-satisfaction”? (from Oswald Chambers).

Let’s check this week:

      • our mannerisms
      • our attitude
      • our words
      • little things we do for others
      • prayer
      • kindnesses

Are we doing these things? Remember what the Lord requires of us:

To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God (Micah 6:8, NIV).

Here is a worship song that will always remind you that LOVE NEVER FAILS.

It is called One Thing Remains by Bethel Church

We never have to be afraid – one thing remains

Your love never fails, it never gives up.

Sunday Stillness – Time – Titus 1:2

Sunday Stillness – Time – Titus 1:2

time---Titus-1-2

Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ to further the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness— in the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time,  and which now at his appointed season he has brought to light through the preaching entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior,

To Titus, my true son in our common faith:

Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior (Titus 1:1-4, NIV).

Time – something that God gives us. And He uses it to His glory. God planned our eternal lives before the beginning of time. That is a promise. And I just love God’s promises.

This week my “time” has been different but as I wrote in Five Minute Fridays – He is always right. I know I should be where I am. It is different and not what I do normally but I know He has the plan and I plan to follow Him.

Are you going with God’s timing or trying to make your way in your timing? It is a big question.

As my little grandson (22 months) is learning to do – Breathe. When things don’t seem to be going his way, he gets frustrated. His mommy has taught him to take a slow breath – and breathe. That calms him very well so he can then listen to why things are not going to go according to his timing.

Are you breathing? Are you taking the time to listen to the God Who created you?

Today is Sunday Stillness – Take time. And remember God has planned everything – in His timing.

Today is #SundayStillness.

Sunday Stillness – Psalm 139: 9-10

Sunday Stillness – Psalm 139: 9-10

Psalm 139 Bill Weaver Photo

It is a good thing that God holds me fast in His Hand. Sometimes I have no idea which way I am going and He seems to be able to direct my path back to the straight and narrow road.

I do rise on the wings of the dawn – and glide here and there. But then He focuses me and says: Janis get this done, now. And boy does He know. I have worked ahead and He knew I needed to because I am heading back to Canada on Sunday to help my daughter. Thank You, Lord for Your foresight.

So here I am getting this done, because God helps me. He guides me to people with gorgeous pictures – Bill Weaver being one special one. I knew I wanted a soaring bird and Bill provided a beauty – an osprey. Exactly what I needed.

Do you know that God holds you fast in His Hand? (click to tweet)

I hope so. If not, please ask Him to show you Who He is. It is that simple.

Sunday Stillness – Quote by Max Lucado

Sunday Stillness – Quote by Max Lucado

Max Lucado Quote - jungle

Watercolour by Janis Cox 2013

Sometimes my days seem like a fog – like last week. Other times I feel like I am in a jungle with branches, and vines, and everything all swirling around me.

In our Bible study we are using a book called The Gospel of Matthew by Max Lucado.

In lesson five called “Following Christ”, Max asks these questions and gives his answers.

Does God remove the jungle? No, the vegetation is still thick.

Does he purge the predators? No, the danger still lurks.

Jesus doesn’t give hope by changing the jungle; he restores our hope by giving us Himself.

And I am so grateful that God can bring peace in the midst of the jungle. He can make me calm, and even joyful when things seem to be confusing.

I am with you always, to the very end of the age (Matthew 28:20, NIV).

Sunday Stillness- Psalm 36:9

Sunday Stillness- Psalm 36:9

psalm-36-9

As we get nearer to Christmas I am getting excited. Excited to see my family. We have been wintering here in Arizona since October and I need those hugs from my children and grandchildren. That has what has been on my mind for the past week. The urge is strong. I can’t seem to stop it.

I believe that is what God feels like for His children. That urge is very strong. Our Creator is compelled to reach us. So compelled that He sent His Only Son to come to earth, to reveal Himself in the flesh for us. The Incarnation. Wow. I know somewhat of how He feels.

Revealing Himself took effort, planning and pain. But His love is that much. He cares for us that much.

God knew the result of His efforts. He knew what pain would be endured but He did it anyway. God loves us that much.

We only know something of this love. Our love for our family and friends, our human love, is only that – human love. God’s love is divine. Divine Love – is all encompassing. God goes to battle over us. God wants us.

Do you see that? Do you see how much God loves you?

Tweetable:

God’s love is so strong, He was compelled to come to earth to show Himself to us.

God’s love is so strong, He sent Jesus as a Babe to live among us; to die for us; to bring us home.

Today is Sunday Stillness.

Today you can reach for the “Fountain of life” that has been given to us through Jesus. Will you reach out today? Will you question Jesus? Will you ask Him to show Himself to you? That’s all it takes.

Please take time to read the wonderful blogs below. If you find a post that does not agree with the Statement of Faith, I would ask that you email me at Janis. Sometimes I can’t get to each of the posts below.

Blessings,

Janis
